Watch: Glenn on ‘Fire and Fury’: ‘This is not a book about Donald Trump’

What’s going on?

After being threatened with a lawsuit by President Donald Trump and his lawyers, author Michael Wolff has a bestseller on his hands. “Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House” purportedly covers the administration’s first nine months, including some choice quotes from former White House adviser Steve Bannon. Trump and his family have publicly clashed with Bannon over the book.

What did Bannon say?

Trump’s former chief strategist hasn’t denied the quotes attributed to him in the book, but he has partially apologized after the report that he called Donald Trump, Jr. “treasonous” for his meeting with a group of Russians. Bannon now says that he was talking about Trump campaign chair Paul Manafort and not Donald Trump, Jr.

“I regret that my delay in responding to the inaccurate reporting regarding Don Jr has diverted attention from the president's historical accomplishments in the first year of his presidency," Bannon said in a statement.

Glenn’s take:

Glenn thought Wolff’s marketing tactics were smart, but he wanted to clarify something for readers: “Fire and Fury” isn’t really about Trump – it could have been ghostwritten by Steve Bannon to show his perspective on everyone he didn’t like.

“I read it so you didn’t have to,” Glenn said on today’s show. “Make no mistake: This is not a book about Donald Trump.”
