Watch: Fans aren’t too happy after this ‘Game of Thrones’ announcement about the final season

What’s happening?

HBO has officially confirmed that “Game of Thrones” fans will have to wait until next year to see the final season of the hit show.

The decision to hold on season 8 partly stems from creative reasons: Showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss want to take their time crafting the six episodes that will make up the closing season. It’s also a practical move since HBO can focus on the upcoming 2018 Emmys (season 7 of “Game of Thrones” is eligible for this awards season).

Uh-oh. How long will I have to wait?

TBD. Entertainment Weekly pointed out that a spring launch was the norm for the show every year until season 7, so a spring 2019 premiere seems likely. But HBO is still keeping a premiere date for the final season under wraps.

On today’s show, Jeffy couldn't believe he has to wait until next year for the final season of “Game of Thrones.”

"Why must I wait until 2019?" he demanded.
