Research shows the generation entering college leans right

Not all young people subscribe to ideas of entitlement and big government. Keystone College political science professor Jeff Brauer spoke to Allie Stuckey about Generation Z’s shift to the right.

He told Campus Reform that people 22 and younger skew more toward conservatism, perhaps because this group has been in perpetual war, recession, and unemployment. They’ve seen budget cuts at their schools, and generally “grew up in a very unstable time,” he told Allie Stuckey.

They are also the last majority white generation, so they are used to diversity, unphased by gay marriage, and more inclusive across the board. Now that they are entering left leaning universities, they are likely to demand transparency and honesty of their professors while accepting their peers.

He believes they are a generation of problem solvers who do not gravitate toward “group think," and that conservative candidates should reach out to them by hitting campuses and engaging in voter registration drives.
