‘My sister wanted a reality show’: Is this why 13 siblings were held captive, tortured?

What’s going on?

A California couple accused of starving, torturing and holding captive their 13 children now face life in prison as investigators sort through the evidence. David and Louise Turpin are infamous after their 17-year-old daughter escaped and called the authorities to reveal the shocking abuse.

The latest story about the Turpin family’s strange background comes from Louise Turpin’s brother, Billy Lambert, who told the Mirror that the family moved to California to be closer to Hollywood and that Louise Turpin wanted more kids ... for a disturbing reason.

“I asked her why on earth they wanted more children and she said about wanting a reality TV show,” Lambert told the Mirror. “They didn’t care about the kids — it was all about them.”

Remind me:

The Turpin parents seem to have escalated their abuse and neglect of their 13 children over the past several years. The 17-year-old girl who escaped to call police appeared to be around 10 years old because she was so emaciated, according to authorities. The 13 siblings are ages 2 to 29, but at first, police didn’t realize seven of them were adults because they were so thin.

David and Louise Turpin have been charged with 12 counts of torture, seven counts of abuse of a dependent adult, six counts of child abuse or neglect and 12 counts of false imprisonment.

Glenn’s take:

“In a weird twist of fate, Louise and David got their wish,” Glenn said on today’s show. “Every day, they can be seen on national television.”
