Federal officials are reviewing 2,500 cases of naturalized citizenship cases for potential fraud

According to the spokeswoman for the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service, federal officials are reviewing over 2,500 individuals who became naturalized citizens in Los Angeles over the last several decades whose records were never entered into a computer system.

The Department of Justice has reason to believe that 100 of the 2,500 applications involved possible fraud, the Miami Herald reported on Monday.

On Thursday, Doc Thompson and Kris Cruz discussed the initiative that's part of a multi-million dollar effort by the Trump administration.

Doc highlighted what's problematic about the massive backlog for naturalization and the irony behind the dozens of U.S. mayors, including LA's Eric Garcetti, who have sent letters indicating that they were upset by this.

Doc then went through the reasons for the backlog.

"There's so many, that we have a backlog," Doc explained. "About a million legally, every year, we allow to immigrate to America...it's a long process."
