Racist signs found above water fountains in Georgia high school. Turns out student of color is behind hate hoax.

Racist signs above drinking fountains — one reading "whites here" and the other reading "colored here" — were spotted in a Georgia high school last week.

TheBlaze has reported time and time again about hate hoaxes — and it turns out this was yet another ruse. And the hoax actually was carried out by a student of color, WMAZ-TV reported.

What are the details?

The signs in question were spotted in Warner Robins High School last Wednesday, the station said.

The school district — Houston County Schools — did not describe the signs, WMAZ reported, adding that viewers sent the station photos showing two adjacent water fountains with a "whites here" sign above one and a "colored here" sign above the other.

Principal Chris McCook said the signs were immediately removed, WMAZ said, adding that McCook said in a call to parents the school dealt with the culprit but did not elaborate.

The station reported that it "did confirm that the student who put the signs up was a person of color. No motive has been released."

“We take these offensive matters very seriously, and we do not tolerate this type of behavior," McCook added, according to WMAZ.

Walter Stephens, executive director for school operations, added to the station that "we're very quick, we're very swift in dealing with the situation as well as the students who do things like this in our school system."

Stephens also told WMAZ that it was an isolated incident and that parents should feel safe letting their kids go to their schools.

Same ol' story

The following is a short list of similar hate hoaxes carried out at schools:

  • After someone scrawled "white" and "colored" over water fountains last month at C.K. McClatchy High School in Sacramento, California, activists were outraged. But it turns out the culprit was a black female student who was caught on camera.
  • A 54-year-old black man was charged in June 2020 with tagging the campus of Salisbury University in Maryland with racist graffiti five times, which authorities characterized as a "hate crime."
  • A leader of a social justice group at the University of La Verne in southern California in 2019 claimed she was threatened and attacked on campus — leading the school at one point to shut down classes for a day to "reset" and deal with the threats. But cops eventually concluded that Anayeli DominguezPena made it all up.
  • The day after former President Donald Trump was elected in 2016, an 18-year-old student at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette claimed to have been robbed by two white men of her wallet and her hijab — a head scarf often worn by Muslim women. But she made up the entire thing.
  • Also the day after Trump's election, a student at Bowling Green State University in Ohio said three white boys wearing Trump shirts threw rocks at her and called her racial slurs, but cops told WTVG-TV she made it all up — possibly over frustration with friends and family who were Trump supporters.
  • A University of Michigan student falsely claimed that on Nov. 11, 2016 — just days after Trump's election — a white man in Ann Arbor threatened to burn her if she didn't remove her hijab.
