With 'World No Tobacco Day' this week, here's what the government is now warning about

World No Tobacco Day was this week, and the World Health Organization wanted to remind everyone that smoking is dangerous. On Friday’s “The Morning Blaze with Doc Thompson,” the guys looked at the risks of “thirdhand smoke” and talked about the potential slippery slope of freedom if smoking is banned.

Did you know that thirdhand and “fourthhand” smoke are serious health concerns? “The Morning Blaze” crew didn’t, and Doc Thompson jokingly reprimanded them for not being aware.

“Maybe eighthhand smoking is candy cigarettes,” he noted.

Firsthand smoke is obviously smoking a cigarette yourself, while secondhand smoke is breathing in smoke from someone else’s cigarette. A recent study found that “thirdhand smoke,” which is purportedly the residue left from smokers on curtains, floors, bedspreads, ceiling tiles and other surfaces, is also harmful. The Department of Energy’s Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory found that newborn mice living in cages with fabric that had been saturated in smoke weighed less and experienced changed blood cell counts.

Doc also explained “fourthhand smoke,” which is when people see other people smoke and are triggered to become smokers themselves. The guys tried to think of every possible level of damage from smoking.

“What about 17th-hand smoke?” Kris Cruz asked. “You dream of smoking a cigarette.”

To see more from Doc, visit his channel on TheBlaze and listen live to “The Morning Blaze with Doc Thompson” weekdays 6–9 a.m. ET, only on TheBlaze Radio Network.
