The Onion releases treasure trove of jokes hidden in Trump ‘leak’

The Onion has published hundreds of documents that "leaked" from the Trump administration from an “anonymous whistleblower.”

The “Pat & Stu” guys talked Tuesday about the satire site’s dedicated troll of the White House. The spoof leak contains documents about President Donald Trump, Vice President Mike Pence, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer, and many other figures in the administration. Some of the “leaks” include kids’ letters to President Trump as well as directions for how White House Counselor Kellyanne Conway should use criticism of the media, Hillary Clinton, and immigrants to distract from Trump’s latest controversy.

Readers can sift through the “leak” to find satirical gems.

“All these jokes throughout it, but they’re not even really pointing you to them,” Stu Burguiere described the detailed satire project. The Onion will be able to write content later pointing back to particular jokes as if they were actually sourced from documents.

The flood of mock memos, emails, letters and other documents has been in the works since Trump’s inauguration.

“What we were looking for in ‘The Trump Documents’ was to take that big swing because it felt like we were staring down the barrel of four years of just an incredible amount of satire we’d have to write, and it felt like this was a great way to do that,” Cole Bolton, editor-in-chief of The Onion, told Fast Company.
