Is Trump's cellphone habit a security issue?

President Donald Trump is reportedly handing out his cellphone number to world leaders with an invitation for them to reach him directly, worrying U.S. officials and security experts.

On Thursday’s “Pat & Stu,” Doc Thompson, Brad Staggs and Jason Buttrill talked about the potential security issues with Trump handing out a personal cellphone number. Does Trump have one phone to tweet and another one for speaking with world allies?

Doc remembered President Barack Obama’s famous Blackberry. He insisted on keeping his phone, so extra security measures were required. Jason assumed that Trump is using a special secured device that can’t have extra apps like Twitter. Because the technology is still so new, we don’t have normal protocol for presidents and smartphones.

“We’re in a new age,” Jason noted, detailing how when he was in the Marines, it was a time before email when people communicated through physical notes.

“Sorry, Angela, in a meeting, call you back,” Doc jokingly imagined Trump answering the phone if German Chancellor Angela Merkel called.
