Women speak out after trans person was cleared of indecent exposure at YMCA — say he was acting out 'fetishes' and 'fantasies'

Female patrons of YMCA locations in Ohio have shared their stories about being exposed to an adult man in the women's change room, after the same man was cleared of wrongdoing when a judge agreed that the man was too fat for his genitals to be seen.

An Ohio man was charged in February 2023 for exposing himself to multiple women, in one instance with little girls present.

During the ruling, the presiding judge determined there was "no question" that 31-year-old Darren Glines "was in the women's locker room," but the judge also ultimately let the man walk without charges, in part because he was too obese for his genitals be seen by the women in the change room.

Judge David McNamee agreed both that the YMCA had permitted Glines to be in the women's locker room and that his "genitalia was not visible as a result of other portions of her body covering same."

Some of the women who complained about Glines shared their stories with the Daily Signal in interviews detailing their experiences.

Janell Holloway said that she was shocked to find the naked man in the locker room at a Xenia, Ohio, YMCA in September 2022. She described Glines as “very, very obese” and wearing a women’s bathing suit.

Holloway said that the man was acting in a predatory manner when he began using the change room.

“He was given free access to the women’s locker room to undress and act out any fetishes or fantasies he wants in front of women and girls,” she told the Daily Signal.

Kateisha Young, an employee at a Fairborn, Ohio, YMCA said she offered emotional support to the man until he attempted to grope her.

Young said she became uncomfortable during conversations with Glines when he brought up topics like masturbation.

“When he started sharing his sexual fantasies … I tried really hard to tolerate it. I tried to be open to the idea that it was maybe just an aspect of transitioning,” Young told Reduxx in May 2023.

After meeting for coffee, Young said that she was "sitting on the left side of him. And when I went to go give him a hug, I had to stand up a little bit to hug him.”

She alleges that the man didn't hug back, but rather felt her buttocks and "then he ended up cupping under … he put his fingers into me.”

Young allegedly later confronted him about the incident in a text message.

A third woman who chose to remain anonymous claimed that Glines was fully naked and “leering” at her and her daughters as they showered and changed in November 2022.

Glines did not responded to requests for comment from the Daily Signal, but the president and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Dayton, Dale Brunner, said in part that "we cannot investigate an individual’s birth gender identity and then, assign individuals to locker rooms. That would be counter to the law and counter to respect for all people."

Brunner's full statement is available in the investigation by the Daily Signal.

Neither the Fairborn nor the Xenia YMCA responded to requests for comment.
