Woman asserts that 'cis women should stand in solidarity with the trans community'

Kathryn Bromwich, who works as "a commissioning editor and writer on the Observer New Review," has asserted that biological women should be supportive of transgender women.

Transgender women are biological males who identify as women. Many women do not want to share women's spaces such as bathrooms with men, even if those men claim to identify as women.

"If women are united by anything – and there are 3.8 billion of us, so there is going to be little common ground – it is the risk of sexual violence, from which no woman is safe, especially not trans women. No rapist is going to stop to check whether you have fallopian tubes. The fact that we are all targets of this particular kind of violence should only increase cis women's solidarity towards our trans sisters," she wrote.

"With gender and sexuality becoming increasingly fluid, feminism should aim to be more inclusive rather than less: welcoming trans men and women as well as non-binary, queer, intersex and gender-nonconforming people," she opined.

Bromwich declared on Twitter, "Cis women should stand in solidarity with the trans community." She added in another tweet that many of her "Observer/Guardian colleagues" share her view on the matter.

But some on social media did not share her sentiments.

Someone replied by noting that "there's no such thing as 'cis' women. Moreover, there is no such thing as a 'transwoman'. There are men, and there are women, and that's it. You cannot change your sex. Stop deluding yourself, Kathryn."

"I don't know any 'cis' women, only women. Men are never women, no matter how they identify. And no one is 'born in the wrong body,'" another commenter wrote. "Good luck with your men's rights activism, tho."
