Video: People work together to rescue baby from hot car in Texas when heat index is over 100 degrees

Video caught people working together to rescue a baby from a hot car in Texas last week when the heat index was over 100 degrees.

What are the details?

The parents left their keys inside their vehicle, accidentally locking the baby inside it at an H-E-B in Harlingen last Wednesday morning, Sgt. Larry Moore with the Harlingen Police Department told MySanAntonio.com. Harlingen is less than 10 miles from the U.S.-Mexico border and less than an hour from South Padre Island on the southern tip of Texas.

The heat index that day was more than 100 degrees, Fox News said.

A crowd of people worked together to break through the windshield and rescue the baby, KLTV-TV reported.

The video shows a man hitting the windshield with a tire iron multiple times as others surround the vehicle, MySanAntonio said.

The father could be seen grabbing the tire iron and clearing more glass out of the way, the outlet added.

MySanAntonio said the father was seen guiding the baby through the broken glass as an unidentified person in the car handed off the baby.

According to KLTV — which cited the individual who took video of the rescue — a woman climbed through the hole in the windshield and then handed the baby out.

More from MySanAntonio:

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says that the inside of a vehicle can jump 20 degrees in 10 minutes. A child's body temperature rises three to five times faster than an adult, which can lead to heat stroke and death. The NHTSA says people should not leave a child unattended in a vehicle for any reason and reminds people with a child to check the back seat whenever they exit their vehicle.
