Van Jones gives Democrats stern warning about Trump's political strength — and tells Biden to 'stay hidden'

Van Jones is trying to warn his fellow Democrats that former President Donald Trump cannot be underestimated.

During CNN's election coverage of the New Hampshire primary, a roundtable of political analysts were discussing what they believe are warning signs that Trump faces an uphill battle if he wants to defeat President Joe Biden in November. That's when Jones interjected with a reality check.

"Part of what we're looking at as Trump's strength — his resilience — is really a reflection of Biden's fragility," Jones warned.

"Republicans are not afraid of Joe Biden. They're not afraid. They don't think that by putting up somebody this damaged — frankly, this deranged with this many deficits — is going to hurt them at all because the polls show over and over again that even with 978 felonies, he's still neck-and-neck with Biden," he explained.

"There's some worrying signs for Trump. These should be worrying signs for Democrats," Jones declared, "that they're not afraid; they're not afraid."

Later in the night, Jones suggested the Biden campaign needs to double down on the "basement" strategy it used in 2020, which kept Biden out of the spotlight for much of that campaign season.

"If I were Biden, I would stay hidden. And I'll tell you why. He doesn't inspire confidence. And he's not a great messenger for himself," Jones said.

"There's something wrong with this campaign where we're somehow expecting Joe Biden — and frankly, he hid during the last campaign — to start come out now and be Flash Gordon and save his own campaign," he added.

A number of high-profile Democrats have expressed open concerns about Biden's campaign, including David Axelrod and James Carville — two men who know what it takes to run winning campaigns.

Former President Barack Obama has also reportedly made his concerns known in private.

Warning signs be damned, Biden's campaign is publicly confident that Biden will win re-election. "Do we think we’re going to win? Absolutely," Biden campaign co-chair Cedric Richmond said Wednesday.
