Suspect shot and killed by resident after brazen home intrusion attempt, California police say

Police say that the resident of a home in California who shot and killed a home intruder is unlikely to face charges.

The Vallejo Police Department said the incident unfolded at about 9:43 a.m. on Monday when the alleged burglar broke the glass door of a home on Georgia Street in Vallejo.

A homeowner shot the man, and he was found dead on the front porch of the home by police.

Public information officer Sgt. Rashad Hollis said that the homeowner appeared to fire at the suspect in self-defense, and it is unlikely that anyone will be arrested.

Residents in the neighborhood told KTVU-TV that they were alarmed by the incident because it happened so close to a police station.

"It’s extremely unfortunate of course that it happened around the corner from the police station, in the morning. It doesn’t make any sense," said Athena Miller.

Another neighbor who didn't want to be identified said that the suspect killed was known for his aggressive behavior.

"He yells and screams and is aggravated and you know pretty scary at times, you know, pretty aggressive," the resident said. "If you break into the residence or kick the door or come into the house, the owner has to fear for their life, obviously."

Miller went on to excuse the actions of the home intruder.

"I’m frustrated, you know? I mean you also have you think about why are people breaking into houses anyway? I mean people are desperate!" she added.

Vallejo is a suburb of about 126,000 near Oakland. The median home price in Vallejo is $550,000 according to Redfin.
