'Trans Day of Vengeance' canceled

The organizers behind the "Trans Day of Vengeance" scheduled for this weekend have called the event off, citing "a credible threat to life and safety."

At 11 a.m. on Saturday, members of Our Rights DC and the Trans Radical Activist Network and others of like mind had planned to gather on the steps of the Supreme Court of the United States in Washington, D.C., to "stop trans genocide." Attendees were asked to "wear a mask" and bring a friend to take "vengeance," though what such "vengeance" might look like or who or what its targets might be were never explained.

"We need more than visibility," the event flier claimed ominously.

Even after a woman who identified as transgender murdered three children and three adults at a Christian elementary school in Nashville on Monday, the organizers of the TDOV initially insisted that the event would continue as scheduled.

Just one day after the shooting, a Twitter account with the handle @tsukuru_agender, run by a person who claims to be a co-founder of TRAN, issued a statement that first condemned the shooting but then insisted, "TDOV was created for exactly this. It is about pushing back against unjust and inhumane systems that are responsible for the loss of life, rights, and joy. ...

"To do nothing is to accept- we choose to fight for change and progress to ensure a better life for all people," the statement added.

The statement denied any association between TDOV organizers and "that horrific event."

However, TDOV organizers soon faced strong opposition on social media, and Twitter then banned sharing the TDOV flier on its platform. Our Rights DC's Twitter account was temporarily suspended until it deleted all tweets sharing the flier.

Late Thursday evening, Our Rights DC announced that the "Trans Day of Vengeance" had officially been canceled because its membership had become the victims of "raw hatred."

"This threat is the direct result of the flood of raw hatred directed toward the trans community after the Tennessee shooting," Our Rights DC tweeted.

"Individuals who had nothing to with that heinous act have been subjected to highly serious threats and blamed only because of their gender identity. This is one of the steps in genocide, and we will continue our efforts to protect trans lives," the group statement continued.

The statement added that the group had "notified the appropriate agencies" about the threats it had received, even though, just five days earlier, Our Rights DC had retweeted a radical leftist group that blamed cops for "killing" an activist who shot at deputies in Georgia earlier this year.

Newsweek claimed to have seen "screenshots" of threats sent to TRAN regarding the TDOV. One such alleged threat called the TRAN a "terrorist" group. "Good job fueling hate," another alleged threat said. "Now kids are dead."

TRAN also insisted that the "trans community" has used the meme "Trans Day of Vengeance" for years, the New York Post reported, and that TRAN hopes to revive the meme "with a better theme" someday. As of Friday afternoon, the #TransDayOfVengeance tab on the TRAN website still insists "The Time is Now."
