Thug who allegedly executed man, shooting him at point-blank range in Harlem on Easter, was out on bail at the time — after allegedly shooting at 3 NYPD officers

The now-arrested suspect who allegedly executed a man — shooting him at point-blank range in Harlem on Easter — was out on bail at the time for allegedly shooting at three NYPD officers in 2021.

Oh, and he's also accused of murdering someone the day before the Harlem killing.

What are the details?

Messiah Nantwi, 21, allegedly shot another man in the head Sunday evening inside a smoke shop at 125th Street and Malcolm X Boulevard, WNYW-TV reported. The killing was caught on surveillance video.

Police told the station the video shows Nantwi pulling out a gun and shooting the victim — 36-year-old Brandon Brunson — in the head before shooting Brunson in the head again when the victim was lying on the floor of the shop, the station said.

Nantwi also was wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of 19-year-old Jaylen Duncan, which occurred around 4:40 p.m. Saturday near Madison Avenue and East 132nd Street, WNYW said. Duncan was shot in the head, taken to Harlem Hospital, and pronounced dead, the station added.

NYPD Chief of Detectives James Essig told Fox News that Nantwi — a member of the local OTN Goodfellas gang — was arrested Tuesday while riding a Citi Bike on Lenox Avenue and that the 9mm murder weapon was found nearby.

Police said Nantwi is charged with two counts of murder and one count of criminal possession of a weapon, WNYW reported.

Out on bail

But at the time of this weekend's killings, Nantwi was out on bail after being arrested in February 2021 for allegedly shooting at three police officers, authorities told the station.

Prosecutors said Nantwi shot at an NYPD sergeant and two officers who tried to stop him from spraying graffiti on a building in the South Bronx, WNYW reported.

The officers were not injured, returned fire 31 times, and Nantwi was taken to a hospital for critical injuries, the station said, adding his case is still awaiting trial.

The Bronx District Attorney's Office said Nantwi's bail for attempted murder charges was originally set at $500,000, WNYW said. But the judge reduced it to $300,000, leaving Nantwi having to pay only 10% — or $30,000, the station added.
