Thug picks wrong woman to carjack — a state prisons sergeant who turns the tables on attacker and doesn't hesitate to use her gun

A female state prisons correctional sergeant shot a man who tried to carjack her Tuesday night in North Philadelphia, law enforcement sources confirmed to WPVI-TV.

The victim was off-duty at the time, WTXF-TV reported.

What are the details?

The 35-year-old victim was pumping gas at North 22nd Street and West Allegheny Avenue when a 22-year-old male approached her from behind, WTXF noted. The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. at a Global gas station, KYW-TV added.

Chief Inspector Scott Small told WPVI that "cameras clearly show" the victim "putting gas in her BMW vehicle when the male ... puts her in a bear hug from behind." KYW said the suspect tried to take the woman's car.

But she turned the tables on her attacker. Small added to WPVI that "a physical altercation" ensued.

Ultimately, Small told WPVI, the pair both pulled guns and shot each other.

Police told WPVI at least 11 shots were fired, and officers patrolling in the area heard the gunfire and responded to the scene.

The victim was shot twice in the leg, and the suspect was shot twice in the lower back and leg, police added to WPVI.

Police took the victim and suspect to Temple University Hospital where they both were listed in stable condition, KYW reported, adding that the suspect was being held as a prisoner.

Police haven't named the suspect, WPVI said.

Small added to KYW that "we have the 35-year-old victim's car still on the scene, and the gas pump is still in the gas tank, so that is part of our scene."

WTXF reported that two semi-automatic weapons were recovered at the scene.
