Armed robbery suspects leave message mocking Texas police in stolen car, but cops get the last laugh

Texas police said two suspects in an armed robbery and an attempted armed robbery left a message mocking them in a stolen car, but they were able to turn the tables on the pair.

Investigators said the two had been targeting shoppers at a Walmart store in Rowlett on two different days.

"Our first victim, he was loading his groceries here at the parking lot, and he was approached by a suspect at gun point. Pointed a gun at him and demanded to have his wallet," said Rowlett Police Corporal Jaqueline Vergara.

The victim's dash camera captured the incident from Nov. 7 at about 8:54 p.m.

Police said the pair drove away in a stolen black Hyundai Elantra and used the credit cards they had stolen from the victim.

That vehicle was allegedly dumped by the thieves and recovered by police. Inside of the car, they found a message.

"We had fun!" the message read.

The suspects had been able to escape despite being chased by police from another city. Police said they drove up to 100 miles an hour during the chase.

Another message on the car read, "3 Police Chase rly."

Police believe that the two male suspects had been inside of the Walmart shopping with a female juvenile just prior to the time of the robbery. They released video of the suspects in hopes of obtaining help from the public to identify them.

Vergara said that the same suspects were believed to have tried another armed robbery two days later at the same Walmart at about 10 a.m.

"Same kind of of thing, the second victim was loading his groceries. He gets approached by the same suspect at gun point demanding his wallet, but this time they're in a red Hyundai Sonata," she explained. "That vehicle is also stolen, stolen out of DeSoto, and we see a pattern that they're aiming for Hyundai vehicles. The way we think that they are entering these vehicles are by smashing the back right rear window."

The suspects drove off after that intended victim threatened to call 911, police said.

Police later said that tips from the public led to the identification and arrest of one of the suspects, 17-year-old Patrick Taylor. They also identified the other suspect as 21-year-old Dwayne Broadnax, though he had not yet been apprehended.

The female was dropped off by the suspects before the robbery, police said, and she is not wanted.
