Soros-backed DA and mother carjacked at gunpoint in crime-ridden New Orleans

A Soros-backed New Orleans district attorney and his mother were carjacked at gunpoint on Monday evening in the crime-ridden city, according to the DA’s spokesperson.

Soft-on-crime DA Jason Williams was reportedly carjacked in New Orleans' Lower Garden District by two armed suspects who rode off in his black Lincoln Navigator around 10 p.m., authorities reported.

Williams spokesperson Keith Lampkin told WVUE, “[Orleans Parish District Attorney] confirms that DA Williams and his 78-year-old mother were carjacked at gunpoint as he was helping her into a car.”

“DA Williams and his mother were unharmed and both thank the NOPD for their hard work tonight and every night responding to crime victims,” he added.

According to Williams, the masked thieves were unable to get very far since he kept the vehicle’s key fob in his pocket. The New Orleans Police Department reported that the SUV was recovered at an undisclosed location in Uptown. The crooks stole some of Williams’ mother’s belongings, including her wallet and phone.

Williams claimed that the suspects seemed to be young adults and had “automatic guns,” he said during an interview following the incident.

After abandoning Williams’ vehicle, the same suspect allegedly carjacked a 22-year-old woman less than a half-mile away, authorities stated.

According to Metropolitan Crime Commission president Rafael Goyeneche, Williams and his mother are fortunate the situation did not escalate.

“We’ve seen some carjackings that have ended in homicide,” Goyeneche commented. “The line between a carjacking in which no one is injured and a carjacking where someone loses their life is a little pressure on the trigger of the firearm.”

New Orleans was designated the “murder capital of the United States” in 2022. Carjackings are reportedly down approximately 48% year to date, despite the DA’s push for social justice reform, including “alternatives to incarceration” and changing the “ineffective and unfair money bail system.”

Williams won the runoff election for Orleans Parish District Attorney in December 2020. The Louisiana Justice and Public Safety PAC ran campaigns against Williams’ opponent, Democrat Keva Landrum, after receiving $220,000 from George Soros, Capital Research Center reported.

On average, Williams prosecutes only 44% of charged criminals, data revealed. In 2021, the DA declined to prosecute 65% of criminal cases.

“I think it’s important to reiterate that my mother and I are just a small fraction of the number of people impacted by violence in this city,” Williams said. “We have to collectively work on crime-prevention efforts, policing efforts and our prosecution efforts.”

Williams noted that if an arrest is made in the case, his office will recuse itself and the attorney general will likely prosecute the case, WVUE reported.
