DeSantis drops out of 2024 presidential race, endorses Trump as 'superior' candidate over Biden

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced that he had suspended his 2024 presidential campaign on Sunday afternoon. DeSantis endorsed former President Donald Trump, and proclaimed him to be a "superior" candidate over President Joe Biden.

DeSantis shared a video on the X social media platform announcing that he was dropping out of the presidential race on the eve of the New Hampshire primary.

DeSantis declared that "nobody worked harder," and "we left it all out on the field." He added that if there was anything he could have done to make his campaign more successful, then he would have done it.

The 45-year-old Republican governor said, "I'm proud to have delivered on 100 percent of his promises, and I will not stop now."

"It's clear to me that a majority of Republican primary voters want to give Donald Trump another chance," DeSantis stated. "They watched his presidency get stymied by relentless resistance and they see Democrats using lawfare to this day to attack him."

"While I've had disagreements with Donald Trump, such as on the coronavirus pandemic and his elevation of Anthony Fauci," DeSantis continued. "Trump is superior to the current incumbent, Joe Biden – that is clear."

"He has my endorsement because we can't go back to the old Republican guard of yesteryear," he added.

DeSantis bashed Nikki Haley as representing "warmed-over corporatism."

DeSantis ended his campaign a few days after finishing in second place in the Iowa caucuses with 20.1% of the vote, barely edging Haley and coming in 30 points behind Trump.
