Some Republicans call for 25th Amendment to be invoked against Biden

Multiple Republican lawmakers are calling for the 25th Amendment to be invoked to remove President Joe Biden from power.

"Time for the 25th Amendment," Sen. Josh Hawley of Missouri tweeted.

"If ever there were a time to invoke the 25th Amendment, wouldn't that time be now?" Sen. Mike Lee of Utah wrote.

"For the safety of our nation, Joe Biden must resign. He could not remember basic facts about his life. He is not competent to remain as Commander-in-Chief & every day that he remains, he puts America at risk. If he won't resign, the Cabinet must invoke the 25th Amendment," Rep. Mary Miller of Illinois declared in a post on X.

"This report labels Biden as a 'well meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.' That does not describe someone who should be the Commander in Chief of our armed forces and the defender of American freedoms. It's time for his cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment," Sen. Rick Scott of Florida tweeted.

The lawmakers' calls for the president's removal erupted in response to a special counsel report that indicated that Biden had memory issues.

"Our investigation uncovered evidence that President Biden willfully retained and disclosed classified materials after his vice presidency when he was a private citizen," the executive summary of the report states. "However, for the reasons summarized below, we conclude that the evidence does not establish Mr. Biden's guilt beyond a reasonable doubt." The report summary states that "we decline prosecution of Mr. Biden."

It also states that "at trial, Mr. Biden would likely present himself to a jury, as he did during our interview of him, as a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory."

The report states that, "In his interview with our office," Biden, "did not remember when he was vice president, forgetting on the first day of the interview when his term ended ('if it was 2013 - when did I stop being Vice President?'), and forgetting on the second day of the interview when his term began ('in 2009, am I still Vice President?'). He did not remember, even within several years, when his son Beau died."

During remarks on Thursday, Biden declared that his memory is "fine." Regarding the suggestion that he had been unable to recall when his son Beau passed away, Biden asked, "How in the hell dare he raise that?" Biden said that when he was asked that question he thought that it was none of "their damn business."
