Rep. Maxine Waters says pro-filibuster Sens. Manchin and Sinema 'don't care whether or not they undermine the rights of minorities and blacks in this country'

Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters of California recently claimed that Sens. Joe Manchin (D-W.V.) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.) "don't care whether or not they undermine the rights of minorities and blacks in this country."

While Democrats want to change the filibuster rules in order to ram so called "voting rights" legislation through the Senate, Manchin and Sinema have frustrated other members of their party by publicly opposing the idea of targeting the filibuster.

"We have two Democrats — Manchin and Sinema — and they are holding up the Democratic agenda," Waters declared during an interview on MSNBC.

The congresswoman said that the senators have chosen to back the filibuster and "don't care whether or not they undermine the rights of minorities and blacks in this country."

"They don't care about minorities, they don't care about blacks, they don't care about people in their own districts who they're going to deny their voting rights and undermine their voting rights," Waters said.

Manchin and Sinema have both made it crystal clear that they are unwilling support the weakening of the filibuster.

"Allowing one party to exert complete control in the Senate with only a simple majority will only pour fuel onto the fire of political whiplash and dysfunction that is tearing this nation apart — especially when one party controls both Congress and the White House," Manchin said in a statement last week. "As such, and as I have said many times before, I will not vote to eliminate or weaken the filibuster."
