Rep. Lauren Boebert, ex-husband have heated confrontation at dinner, prompting police investigation: 'Sad situation for all'

High-profile Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado had a heated exchange with her ex-husband while the two sat down to dinner over the weekend, prompting police to come and investigate.

On Saturday night, Rep. Boebert and her ex-husband, Jayson Boebert, went out for dinner at the Miner’s Claim restaurant in Silt, Colorado, to have what Jayson described as "a difficult conversation."

Earlier in the evening, Jayson had attempted to give Lauren a hug at his residence, a gesture that Lauren rebuffed, an aide to the congresswoman claimed. However, Jayson's behavior apparently continued throughout dinner. He allegedly made sexual comments and just acted like a "disrespectful" "a**h***," the aide explained, according to the New York Post.

At one point, Jayson allegedly made an "aggressive move" toward Lauren, prompting Lauren to "put her hand in his face, put her hand on his nose" to block his advances, the aide said. Jayson initially did not see things that way and reportedly called Silt police to claim that he was the "victim of domestic violence."

American Muckrakers, which the New York Post called "an anti-Boebert super PAC," first broke the news of the incident, reporting on X that Lauren had "punched her ex-husband Jayson in the nose 2 times and then continued to beat him up." American Muckrakers also reported that Lauren called police, not Jayson.

"As much as I despise her, it's just sad for the boys," the X post said in reference to the former couple's four children.

The congresswoman issued a statement about the incident. "This is a sad situation for all that keeps escalating," she said in part.

"I didn’t punch Jayson in the face and no one was arrested. I will be consulting with my lawyer about the false claims he made against me and evaluate all of my legal options," the statement added.

Jayson told the Denver Post that he called Silt police on Sunday to insist that he was not going to press charges. "I don’t want nothing to happen," he told the outlet. "Her and I were working through a difficult conversation."

Silt police Chief Mike Kite confirmed to the Denver Post that the incident was under investigation and that no one had been arrested at the restaurant, but he declined to provide further details. He claimed that the department will release its findings once its investigation has concluded.

"We have a lot of facts and stuff to get sorted out," he told the outlet.

Rep. Boebert, 37, was first elected to represent Colorado's 3rd District in 2020. She then narrowly won re-election in 2022, defeating Democrat challenger Adam Frisch by fewer than 550 votes.

Though the 3rd District leans conservative, Boebert announced late last month that in 2024, she would run for the congressional seat in the 4th District, currently occupied by retiring Republican Rep. Ken Buck. Boebert said competing for the 4th District, which is even more conservative than the 3rd District, "is the best way I can continue to fight for Colorado, for the conservative movement, and for my children’s future."

Jayson and Lauren Boebert married in 2005 and divorced last year, citing "irreconcilable differences." "It is with a heavy weight on my heart that I have filed for divorce from my husband," the congresswoman said at the time. "I am grateful for our years of marriage together and for our beautiful children."

Last September, the representative made headlines for vaping and showing a bit too much physical affection while on a date with a new man to a musical production of "Beetlejuice." She and her date were asked to leave the theater, and their relationship ended shortly thereafter.
