Nancy Pelosi tests positive for COVID-19 after close contact with Biden and other Democrats

Democrat House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California tested positive for coronavirus and many online pointed out that she had recent events with close contact with President Joe Biden and other Democrats.

“After testing negative this week, Speaker Pelosi received a positive test result for Covid-19 and is currently asymptomatic,” said Drew Hammill, Pelosi's spokesperson in a tweet. "The Speaker is fully vaccinated and boosted, and is thankful for the robust protection the vaccine has provided."

Hammill went on to say that Pelosi, who is 82 years old, would quarantine according to guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Presentation.

Some on social media pointed out that Pelosi attended a signing ceremony with Biden and many other Democrat politicians on Wednesday evening to celebrate a bill to reform the U.S. Postal Service. She was also photographed hugging former President Barack Obama closely during a formal event on Tuesday.

Pelosi is only the latest in a series of Democrats to test positive for the coronavirus. Two of those, Attorney General Merrick Garland and Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo, attended a dinner at the Gridiron Club on Wednesday.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki dismissed concerns about the possibility of the president contracting the virus from the speaker.

"We have incredibly stringent protocols here at the White House that we keep in place to keep the president safe, to keep everybody safe, those go over and above CDC guidelines," claimed Psaki.

She pointed out that while Pelosi had been in close contact with Biden that the interaction did not meet the CDC definition of close contact leading to transmissibility, which included being within 6 feet for a cumulative period of 20 minutes.

Psaki also said Biden had been tested on Wednesday evening and tested negative.

Pelosi follows behind Vice President Kamala Harris in the succession of the presidency should anything befall Biden.
