At least 5 Oregon venues cancel Charlie Kirk events because of threats of violence, TPUSA says

At least five venues in Oregon that were scheduled to host events for Turning Point USA President Charlie Kirk's Critical Racism Tour have canceled on Kirk after receiving violent threats from Antifa and far-left activists, Turning Point USA said.

The latest cancellation came from the Holiday Inn Express Eugene Springfield, which on Wednesday sent Turning Point USA a notice informing the group that the hotel did not have adequate staff to ensure the safety of its guests.

"After careful consideration, we have made the decision to not allow tonight's event to proceed at our hotel. We apologize for the short notice, and are making this decision out of an abundance of caution for the safety and security of our staff and guests," Vice President of Operations Terry Goldman said in an email, reported by the Post Millennial.

"The event has garnered a great deal of attention from multiple organizations and we unfortunately we do not have the level of staffing available to ensure a secure event," Goldman wrote.

Before the cancellation, an activist account on social media called for "community pushback" against Kirk's event and shared the hotel's phone number, urging people to "Light their phone up."

The account claimed victory on Thursday after the event was canceled and then sent activists after another venue where Kirk attempted to reschedule his event.

Andrew Kolvet, a spokesman for Turning Point USA, told the Post Millennial that the Holiday Inn was the fifth venue in Oregon to cancel events for Kirk's tour following cancellations at two churches, one event center, and another hotel.

Last month, a TPUSA event at Graduate Hotel near the University of Oregon was canceled after the hotel said it "received various communications indicating that the Event will cause damage or disruption to the Hotel's premises, operation, guests, or reputation."

Kolvet alleged threats of violence from Antifa were the reason these venues backed out of Kirk's events.

"The irony is that as Charlie Kirk trends on Twitter for denouncing political violence, Antifa has been threatening violence against event staff at venues that attempt to host TPUSA's campus tour stops. 5 different venues have now cancelled as a result of Antifa's coordinated campaign of violent harassment, including the most recent cancellation on the day of the event in Eugene, Oregon," Kolvet said.

"So while Democrats attempt to criminalize mainstream conservative ideas and personalities who denounce violence, they empower actual violent extremist in their midst by failing to renounce groups like Antifa. The double standard is shameful and it's tearing the country apart," he said.

Kirk trended on social media Wednesday after he denounced a question from a member of his audience who had asked "when do we get to use the guns" to oppose "corporate and medical fascism."

The provocative question was asked at the Nampa Civic Center in Nampa, Idaho, where Kirk was speaking on his Critical Racism Tour. Some members of the audience cheered as the man who asked the question insisted he was not joking.

"That's not a joke, I'm not saying it like that. I mean, literally, where's the line? How many elections are they going to steal before we kill these people?" he said.

Kirk immediately condemned the comments and told those cheering to stop.

"Now, I'm going to denounce that and tell you why. Because you're playing into all their plans, and they're trying to make you do this," he said in response.

"They are trying to provoke you, and everyone here, they are trying to make you do something that will be violent that will justify a takeover of your freedoms and liberties, the likes of which we have never seen," Kirk continued.

"We are close to having momentum to be able to get this country back on a trajectory using the peaceful means that we have. To answer your question, and I just think it's overly blunt, we have to be the ones that do not play into the violent aims and ambitions of the other side."
