Nike to host panel with 'queer' surgeon who has performed gender-transition surgeries on children

Nike will celebrate Pride Month with a series of discussions, donations, and panels, including a panel with a gender-reassignment surgeon who has admitted to performing “gender affirming mastectomies” on minors, according to a leaked email obtained by the Daily Wire.

The email reportedly starts with the declaration that "this year’s theme is Together We Are Undeniable. The LGBTQIA+ community continues to fight for equality – their fight to be themselves.”

Nike said its gay pride theme for the month “centers around determination; celebrating icons of the community and the progress we have and will continue to make in light of recent attacks and restrictions on the community and their allies.”

Perhaps one of these "icons" Nike referred to was Dr. Blair Peters, a surgeon at the Oregon Health and Science University who has specialized in "Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery." Peters' "special focus" is listed as "Gender Affirming Surgery" and "Peripheral Nerve Disorders."

Peters, who has admitted to performing "gender affirming mastectomies" on minors, will host a panel and question period transgender policies.

“I performed gender affirming mastectomies (top surgeries) for 3 young adults and adolescents today," Peters said in a now-deleted tweet. "All had supportive parents present. You could see the family relief the second we wheeled back to the OR. I could sense the shift. 'We made it. We have a chance.'," he added.

“Join the Human Rights Campaign, Portland Community Football Club’s Kaig Lightner, and OHSU Trans Health Program’s Dr. Blair Peters for a panel and Q&A to discuss policies impacting the transgender community,” the leaked email said, advertising a July 11, 2023, event.

Peters also described himself in an OHSU video as a "queer, gender diverse" surgeon who uses he/they pronouns. He also described gender-affirming surgery as "using surgery to help someone physically actualize their internal sense of self."

In an example scenario, Peters said that he had "an adolescent patient who [hadn't] been going to school … and they [came] back to clinic two months after top surgery … thriving all of the sudden.”

"I view surgery as changing something that makes someone feel dysphoric to make them feel euphoric and better," Peters added.

Nike will also reportedly celebrate the month with a "family-friendly" drag queen story time on July 13, 2023. The email described the event as "spotlighting local queer, women, and minority-owned businesses.”

“You will have an opportunity to cultivate an undeniable sense of community and belonging with your Nike teammates through activations like … a family friendly Drag Story Time," the email stated.

A June 20, 2023, event will "welcome environmental educator Isaias Hernandez … to explore queer ecology.” Hernandez describes himself as a "queer and brown environmentalist."

Along with events, Nike has pledged money to "LGBTQIA+" organizations to the tune of $600,000 according to the email, including groups that have produced an “LGBTQ History Coloring Book” for kids and Camp Lightbulb, an organization that has “LGBTQ+ youth” as young as 14 stay at overnight camps.

Nike did not immediately respond to a request for comment. This story will be updated with any answers Nike provides.
