Elon Musk says Ron DeSantis could 'easily' beat Biden in 2024 and would not 'even need to campaign'

Billionaire business tycoon Elon Musk opined in a tweet on Monday that if Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis mounted a presidential bid and faced off against President Joe Biden, DeSantis would win the contest and would not even have to campaign in order to secure victory.

"Trump would be 82 at end of term, which is too old to be chief executive of anything, let alone the United States of America. If DeSantis runs against Biden in 2024, then DeSantis will easily win – he doesn't even need to campaign," Musk tweeted.

Last month, Musk announced that he had voted for Republican Mayra Flores, the candidate who won a special election for Texas's 34th Congressional District. "I voted for Mayra Flores – first time I ever voted Republican. Massive red wave in 2022," Musk tweeted. He also noted that he was leaning towards supporting DeSantis for president.

The Republican governor has not announced plans for a 2024 presidential bid, but he is seeking re-election in Florida's 2022 gubernatorial contest. Last month, DeSantis responded to Musk's comments by noting that he is "focused on 2022," and adding, "I welcome support from African Americans." Elon Musk was born in South Africa.

Trump recently called Musk "another bulls[***] artist," claiming that Musk had told him that he voted for him.

Musk tweeted on Monday that Trump's claim is "Not true."

"I don’t hate the man, but it’s time for Trump to hang up his hat & sail into the sunset," Musk tweeted on Monday. "Dems should also call off the attack – don’t make it so that Trump’s only way to survive is to regain the Presidency."

Trump is widely expected to mount another White House bid.

President Joe Biden, who is the oldest president in U.S. history, has said that he plans to seek re-election as long as he has "good health." If he were to run and win re-election, Biden would be 86 years old by the end of his second term.

The progressive group RootsAction plans to wage a campaign to prevent Biden from becoming the 2024 Democratic presidential nominee.

"We're making this announcement today because the current debate over whether Biden should run again focuses too narrowly on his age and the latest polls," RootsAction cofounder Jeff Cohen said, according to a Monday press release. "It's his performance -- his inability to fight for working people and stand up against Republican and corporate obstruction -- that has us worried about 2024."
