A murderer opened fire at a California garlic festival on Sunday, killing three people — including a 6-year-old little boy — before being shot dead by police. Another 15 victims were injured in the ambush, and authorities are still searching for a suspected accomplice.

Once inside, the suspect began shooting indiscriminately into the crowd, wounding 15 people and killing three, including 6-year-old Stephen Romero.

Stephen was attending the festival with his mother and grandmother, who were also shot in the attack but are expected to survive their injuries. The little boy was just weeks away from entering first grade, according to NBC News.

Police officers on the scene were able to respond within a minute, engaging the attacker and killing him, the Associated Press reported. Authorities are still searching for a second suspect, who is believed to have assisted the murderer.

According to the Daily Mail, witnesses described the murderer as a white male, age between 20 and 35, who was wearing military fatigues.
