MSNBC pulls 'Morning Joe' from air Monday reportedly over concerns about Trump assassination attempt commentary

'Morning Joe' will be back on the air Tuesday.

MSNBC nixed broadcasting its "Morning Joe" program Monday due to concerns about possible inappropriate commentary in the wake of Saturday's assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump, CNN reported.

MSNBC's focus Monday is breaking news coverage of the shooting at Trump's rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, CNN said, adding that "Morning Joe" will be back on the air Tuesday.

'Given the gravity and complexity of this unfolding story, NBC News, NBC News NOW and MSNBC have remained in rolling breaking news coverage since Saturday evening.'

CNN, citing an individual familiar with the matter, said MSNBC made the move to prevent the possibility of inappropriate commentary on "Morning Joe" that could hurt the progressive cable news network. Instead, the individual told CNN, breaking news coverage would air. In addition, the individual told CNN that Cesar Conde, chairman of NBCUniversal News Group, made the decision in conjunction with Rashida Jones, president of MSNBC, and hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski.

“Given the gravity and complexity of this unfolding story, NBC News, NBC News NOW and MSNBC have remained in rolling breaking news coverage since Saturday evening," an NBCUniversal News Group spokesperson stated, according to CNN. "As we continue to cover this story into the week, the networks will continue to cross simulcast, alternating between NBC News, NBC News NOW and ‘MSNBC Reports,’ so there is one news feed covering this developing situation.”

CNN said this isn't a first for MSNBC, as the cable news network last year pulled three of its Muslim broadcasters off the air after Hamas' deadly Oct. 7 surprise attack against Israel.

Anything else?

Scarborough and Brzezinski — who are married in addition to being co-hosts of "Morning Joe" — are no fans of Trump, and the sentiment has been mutual. In March, Scarborough uttered "bulls**t" two times on air while pushing a false narrative saying Trump's use of the term "bloodbath" during one of his rallies was a call for political violence if he's not elected in November.

However, following the assassination attempt against Trump, Scarborough on Sunday said on X that "our family is praying this morning for President Trump, those injured yesterday, and for the loved ones of the American tragically killed. May God grant mercy on them and deliver us from the violent political rhetoric that coursens [sic] debate and endangers public servants."
