Louisiana day care worker fired after video of alleged infant abuse goes viral on social media

A video showing a day care worker allegedly abusing a baby in her care has caused outrage from parents in Louisiana and led to one worker being fired.

The video showed two workers at the Little Red Cottage day care in Metairie treating the child roughly and telling the baby to go to sleep before turning their attention back to their cellphones.

An email to parents of children at the day care was sent by the owners of the business saying that the "conduct shown in the video is inconsistent with school policy" and that the worker was not returning to the business.

The email said the video had been recorded on June 1 and that the worker on the video had applied to be a teacher and was in the classroom on a trial basis.

The incident is being investigated by the Louisiana Department of Education as well as the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's special victims section.

Parents are outraged.

“Disturbing... disgusting, upsetting. I mean, I was just fuming with anger,” said one parent to WVUE-TV.

“If someone is filming this, I don’t know who filmed it, obviously, but if someone filmed it, it’s probably not the first time," said another parent to WVUE.

“I think any parent who has had to make the difficult decision of seeking child care from a stranger knows how challenging that is and how hard it is to entrust someone else with your child, let alone a stranger," she added. "So I think I, along with plenty of other parents, is frightened to think this is happening in our own community at a highly regarded daycare here.”

The owners of the Little Red Cottage released a statement about the incident.

"We're complying with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's office's investigation. We continue to have ongoing communication with our families, so they know that we have devoted our full attention to this situation," read the statement.
