Man viciously stabbed Uber driver in broad daylight, then posted a video of her dying breath on Facebook, police claim

The New Orleans Police Department is mourning one of its own. Yolanda Dillion, 54, who worked for 10 years as a budget analyst for the NOPD, was stabbed to death in broad daylight while working as an Uber driver for some extra Christmas cash.

On Thursday, Dillion was working as an Uber driver when she picked up 29-year-old Brandon Jacobs in downtown New Orleans and drove him to the Travelodge in Harvey, Louisiana, where he was staying. She pulled up to the motel with Jacobs in tow at approximately 3 p.m. that day.

Rather than simply exit the vehicle at that time, Jacobs instead grabbed Dillion from behind and viciously stabbed her three times, police said. He then reportedly left the scene and returned to his motel room. When another passenger attempted to enter Dillion's vehicle, the passenger saw that Dillion had been attacked and ran back into the Travelodge for help. Dillion was rushed to a nearby hospital, but died shortly thereafter.

"He was in the backseat," said Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joe Lopinto. "Stabbed her from behind. Exited the vehicle and just walked away casually."

There is surveillance footage of some of the attack in the following WWL-TV news segment. Warning: disturbing content

Police contacted Uber to get a list of fares that had ridden with Dillion that day. They then found Jacobs still in his Travelodge motel room. Police say that Jacobs admitted to the crime and that he had posted a video of Dillion's dying moments on Facebook. Facebook has since removed the alleged video from Jacobs' page.

Police further stated that Jacobs told them he "woke up" that morning "and decided to kill someone" and that Dillion just happened to be his random target.

"Our team is taking it pretty hard," NOPD Superintendent Shaun Ferguson said. "The team dearly loved [Dillion]. She will be dearly missed. She was quiet. She was humble. A quiet giant, I would say, because she meant a lot to this department, and it tore our employees up.

"This was just something that definitely blindsided everyone," he added.

Dillion was, by all accounts, a beloved member of her community. She was the only child and sole caretaker of her 83-year-old mother, Edna. She was an active parishioner at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in New Orleans East. She had also survived breast cancer and had nearly completed a PhD in sociology.

"Yolanda, to other people, was a very caring person. You never know whether she’s suffering or not, but she was always there asking others how they are doing, how they felt," Father Charles Ndumbi recalled of Dillion.

Jacobs has been booked and charged with second-degree murder. It is unclear when he will appear in court.
