Lara Trump elected as RNC co-chair, Michael Whatley elected as RNC chairman

Republican National Committee members have elected Michael Whatley to serve as RNC chairman and former President Donald Trump's daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, to serve as RNC co-chair.

"This isn't just about right versus left, Republican versus Democrat," Lara Trump said, but "about good versus evil" and "giving this country back to we the people."

She made the remarks Friday after being elected to serve as RNC co-chair.

"We have to encourage people to do things like early voting. We have to get people early voting, and then as soon as they go vote they take people from that day on, all the way up until election day to go vote. We have to raise a lot of money," she said.

"I'm stepping aside today because I have long promised to put the nominee and their plans for the RNC first," Ronna McDaniel, who served as RNC chairwoman since early 2017, said. "President Trump deserves to have the team he wants in place at the RNC."

Last month, the former president, who is hoping to return to the White House next year, endorsed Lara Trump and Whatley for the RNC roles.

President Joe Biden, who aims to secure re-election later this year, delivered his State of the Union address on Thursday, and Trump sounded off with scathing criticism.

"That may be the Angriest, Least Compassionate, and Worst State of the Union Speech ever made. It was an Embarrassment to our Country!" Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social. "The Story is that he got through it, he's still breathing, and they didn’t have to carry him out in a straitjacket. Other than that, he did not do a very good job!" he declared in another post.
