Indiana man drove 1,100 miles to have sex with 15-year-old he had been grooming online for 5 years, Texas police say

Texas police are searching for a man from Indiana who they allege drove more than 1,100 miles to Texas in an attempt to have sex with a 15-year-old whom he had been grooming on social media apps for five years.

Court documents said that 25-year-old Ryan Alexander Steele was charged with felony solicitation of a minor according to KHOU-TV.

Text messages obtained by police showed that Steele was allegedly planning to drive from his residence in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to have sex with the minor and then drive her back to his home to live with him.

Investigators said that Steele showed up at the home of the girl's grandparents, who noticed him sitting in his car outside. When the grandfather confronted him, he asked for the granddaughter and drove away when he was told she wasn't there.

That led to the parents reading the girl's messages and finding the explicit communications from Steele.

Police questioned the girl after the parents contacted them, and she admitted to them that she had been communicating with the man through Discord and other social media apps for years.

Some of the alleged text messages were documented in the police report.

"We made [sic] actually have to get our own place, I think we made [sic] disturb the other person with all the noise we're going to make. On the table, against the wall, on the couch, in the shower, in bed of course, s--t, probably just on the floor too," Steele is alleged to have texted on March 9.

"Question, are you gonna bring birth control with you, or should we buy some later, or should I just bring condoms?" he allegedly texted on March 11.

The texts indicated that Steele gave up trying to meet with the child after three days and drove back to Indiana.

"We'll have to try again in another week or 2 I guess," he is alleged to have texted on March 26.

Police are trying to find the man.

Experts warn parents to monitor their children's activities on social media because sexual predators use the online platforms to find and groom underage victims.
