In wake of Trump charges, grieving mother blasts Alvin Bragg for granting plea deals to thugs involved in slaying of her son — an Army vet, husband, and father of 3

In the wake of former President Donald Trump's indictment by controversial Manhattan prosecutor Alvin Bragg, a mother appeared on a "Fox & Friends" panel Wednesday and blasted Bragg for granting plea deals to two people accused in the slaying of her son — an Army veteran, husband, and father of three.

What are the details?

Madeline Brame's son, Sgt. Hason Correa, was killed in a 2018 Harlem stabbing, Fox News said, and Brame began by mocking Bragg's infamous "no one is above the law" declaration in regard to charges against Trump.

"If no one is above the law, then I don't understand how Alvin Bragg could dismiss murder and gang assault indictments against two of the people involved in the murder of my son," she told the cable network.

One of the defendants in the deadly attack was set free last year on time served and a downgraded charge of felony assault, the New York Post reported. Another defendant got only seven years behind bars after pleading guilty to gang assault in a deal struck with Bragg’s office, the Post said in a separate story. A third defendant was convicted of gang assault in December and got 20 years to life behind bars, the paper said. A fourth defendant also was charged.

All that to say, Brame said during the panel discussion that Bragg's efforts to prosecute Trump are "nonsense" when murderers seem to be "above the law in New York City."

"We see it every single day in the black and brown communities. Every day, all day. Everyone is above the law. They're not even making it to the DA's office. The cases are not even being prosecuted, period! All right?" Brame said with noticeable emotion in the "Fox & Friends" video. "They're being released from the precincts with a desk appearance ticket to a referral to a community-based organization that has shown no measurable outcomes of effectiveness of what they're doing with our millions and billions of tax dollars."

Brame added that New Yorkers are seeing rising crime "out of control every single day" and that Bragg is doing "absolutely zero" about it, the cable network said.

As you might expect, Brame told the "Fox & Friends" panel she plans to vote for Trump in the 2024 presidential election — something she did in 2020 as well.

"I am a proud black conservative," she told host Ainsley Earhardt.

The "Fox & Friends" panel consisted of Republicans and Democrats who also disagreed with the decision to bring charges against Trump, Fox News said.

Not much to Bragg about

While critics of Bragg have accused him of being soft on violent crime and habitually downgrading charges, the 34 felony charges Bragg brought against Trump this week — falsification of business records — are typically misdemeanors.

Bragg also brought negative attention upon himself last summer for sending a 61-year-old deli worker to Rikers Island on $250,000 bail after the worker stabbed his attacker to death in what the worker said was self-defense. After public outcry, Jose Alba was released on reduced bail, and soon after, Bragg's office dropped all charges against him.

In a similar case, earlier this month a New York City parking garage attendant was charged with attempted murder after an alleged violent confrontation with a thief. The attendant was shot twice during the reported robbery attempt but managed to wrestle away the perp's gun and fire back at the alleged thief. Again, after public outcry, days later Bragg's office said the parking lot attendant would not be charged with any crimes.
