'I know who has done this. I will take care of this': Tweet posted on Rep. Maxine Waters' feed claims she was hacked and her Twitter account erased

A strange tweet posted Tuesday on Rep. Maxine Waters' feed says that the lawmaker has been hacked and her Twitter account erased.

"I have been hacked and my Twitter account has been erased. I know who has done this. I will take care of this. M Waters," the tweet declares, without offering further explanation.

"We can't comment on the Tweet, but, as is standard, we have open lines of communication with her office and have worked with them to ensure the account is secure," a Twitter spokesperson noted, according to Business Insider. "At this time, we've identified no signs of account compromise."

Waters, a California Democrat who has served in Congress for three decades, currently serves as chair of the U.S. House Committee on Financial Services.

The tweet on the congresswoman's account raised eyebrows on the social media platform.

"How are you tweeting from a hacked and erased account?" Carmine Sabia queried.

"She tweets on her Twitter account which is still here," Tammy Bruce tweeted.

"Your account is fine. Your brain has been erased. M Walsh," tweeted Matt Walsh.

"It was the Russians!" Brent Scher tweeted.

"I would enjoy being a fly on the wall for whenever Waters confronts 'who has done this,' who has seemingly, in fact, not done it. U Perano," tweeted Ursula Perano.

"These are the people who will save us from Big Tech, apparently," Drew Holden wrote.

The peculiar tweet was posted at 11:55 a.m. on the congresswoman's @RepMaxineWaters account and has since garnered significant attention, racking up thousands of responses, retweets, and likes.

A separate Twitter account, which has the handle @MaxineWaters, does not include any posts since June. The description on that account says, "The Campaign Committee to Re-Elect Congresswoman Maxine Waters."
