HS student throws chair across classroom, hits teacher in head; victim hospitalized. Video purportedly of incident shows clobbered teacher knocked to floor.

A Flint, Michigan, high school teacher was hospitalized after a student on Thursday threw a chair across a classroom, hitting the teacher in the head.

MLive said video shows a student picking up a desk chair and throwing it, striking a teacher who immediately fell to the floor:

What are the details?

Mid-MichiganNow, citing Flint Community Schools Superintendent Kevelin Jones, said the incident took place at Southwestern Academy High School — which is listed as Southwestern Classical Academy on the district's website.

Jones said in his first statement Thursday night that the incident took place during an altercation between two students, MLive reported.

Jones released an updated statement Friday indicating the teacher was released from the hospital the same day, is "doing well," and is expected to return to work, the MLive said.

“The resilience and dedication displayed by this educator are truly commendable,” Jones wrote, according to MLive.

Jones added that many students, fellow teachers, and members of the school community have been supporting the injured teacher, MLive said.

“They consider this teacher a hero, and we share in their sentiment,” Jones also wrote, MLive reported.

What about the student?

Jones told MLive the student who threw the chair will be held accountable according to the law and the Flint Community Schools Code of Conduct — although it's still unclear what discipline might be employed.

The Flint Police Department and school district have not responded to requests for comment Friday, MLive added.

Flint Community Schools has not confirmed that the video circulating on social media depicts the incident, but an investigation has been launched, Mid-MichiganNow said.
