Hope Hicks to testify before Congress on Trump, Mueller, and alleged obstruction—but it won't be public

Former White House communications director Hope Hicks will testify before the House Judiciary Committee in a closed-door hearing during which she will answer questions about the Mueller investigation, President Donald Trump, and potential obstruction of justice, according to ABC News.

"Ms. Hicks understands that the Committee will be free to pose questions as it sees fit, including about her time on the Trump Campaign and her time in the White House," committee chairman Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) said. "Should there be a privilege or other objection regarding any question, we will attempt to resolve any disagreement while reserving our right to take any and all measures in response to unfounded privilege assertions."

The White House had previously advised Hicks not to turn over documents in response to a subpoena from the committee, arguing that she could not legally turn over the documents as a former White House staffer since the documents were White House property, not Hicks' own property.

Hicks is scheduled to testify on June 19, and her testimony will be transcribed and released to the public shortly after it is completed, Nadler said.

The hearing is a part of the broad efforts by congressional Democrats to investigate President Trump and those around him for potential obstruction of justice related to special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian election interference.

Hicks' testimony is of great interest to the committee due to her closeness to the president and his organization and administration. Hicks was employed by President Trump before his campaign began and was a close adviser to him during her time in the White House. She resigned in February 2018 and works for the Fox Corporation.

Hicks admitted during an interview with Mueller that she had told "white lies" for President Trump, a revelation that only briefly preceded her exit from the administration.
