Gunman attacks pub owner in front of his 4-year-old son, allegedly says, 'Sit down, white boy, I’m gonna end you' — and gets plea deal

Surveillance video caught the scary scene as a gunman walked into a Washington, D.C., pub one afternoon late last month and attacked the owner in front of his 4-year-old son, WRC-TV reported.

The owner said the gunman repeatedly told him, "Sit down, white boy, I’m gonna end you," the station reported, adding that the attacker has since received a plea deal.

What are the details?

Gaynor Jablonski, owner of Valor Brewpub, was sitting at a table inside his establishment next to his son just after 2:30 p.m. June 29, the station said.

He then heard an angry voice coming from the front of the bar, WRC reported.

"It confused me because ... it's 2 o'clock in the afternoon," Jablonski told the station. "Like, 'What's going on?'"

With that, Jablonski stood up to confront the angry man, who was caught on video shoving Jablonski, pulling a gun from his waistband, and briefly pointing the gun at Jablonski, WRC said.

“He just kept saying, 'Sit down, white boy, I’m gonna end you,'" Jablonski told the station.

The gunman punched Jablonski, after which the pair began wrestling and Jablonski went for the gun, WRC said.

“I picked him up by his throat and his head after I punched where the gun was and just started, basically, carrying him away from my son," Jablonski noted to the station.

WRC said the pub's brewmaster spotted the gun after it slid away from the melee and grabbed it.

Son roars like a dinosaur at attacker

The station said Jablonski's son climbed on top of his dad to help — and Jablonski added to WRC that his boy roared like a dinosaur in the hopes of scaring away the attacker.

“It’s by far the most frightened I've ever been in my life," Jablonski told the station. "... I wasn’t worried so much about me — I was just worried about, like, "OK, this guy is [showing] he's just completely erratic."

WRC said video showed in subsequent moments that the gunman spent several minutes looking for his weapon and walked out of the pub, where D.C. police, who had just arrived on the scene, took him into custody.

What happened next?

Gregory Gibson, of Rosharon, Texas, was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and possession of a firearm during a crime of violence, the station said.

Within days, however, WRC said the U.S. Attorney's Office offered Gibson a plea deal that he accepted — and on Monday he pleaded guilty to attempted assault and carrying a pistol without a license. The station said Gibson's recommended sentence is 24 months behind bars.

Jablonski was not happy.

“I told them I didn't want them to offer any plea, I wanted to go to trial, and I would do whatever they needed to make sure that they were prepared," he told WRC. "I mean, I gave them the video, I'm the eyewitness in it. They told me that they have to consider their resources.”

What's more, Gibson was released from custody until sentencing — over the prosecutor's objections, the station said.

Jablonski added to WRC that the whole thing started because Gibson claimed to be an Uber Eats driver but had no proof of a pickup order. An Uber spokesperson said the food delivery company has no record of Gibson working for it, the station noted.
