Giuliani's son calls raid on father's apartment 'absurd,' blames 'continued politicization' of DOJ

Andrew Giuliani, the son of Rudy Giuliani, held a media conference Wednesday expressing fury over federal agents executing a search warrant on his father's Manhattan apartment earlier in the day.

"This is disgusting," Andrew told reporters. "This is absolutely absurd, and it's the continued politicization of the Justice Department."

"If this can happen to the former president's lawyer, this can happen to any American," he continued. "Enough is enough."

Then, Andrew made a reference to President Joe Biden's son, Hunter Biden, saying, "The only piece of evidence that they did not take up there today was the only piece of incriminating evidence that is in there, and it does not belong to my father — it belonged to the current president's son."

He added, "To all Americans out there, our Justice Department should be independent of politics. Enough is enough, ladies and gentlemen. We cannot stand for this anymore."

The raid of Rudy Giuliani's apartment took place around 6:00 a.m., his attorney confirmed, and the former mayor of New York's electronic devices were confiscated. According to the initial reporting by The New York Times, federal authorities are "stepping up a criminal investigation into Mr. Giuliani's dealings in Ukraine."

Meanwhile, another former personal attorney to President Donald Trump, Michael Cohen, appeared to celebrate the news that Giuliani's home was raided.

Cohen was the former president's friend and lawyer for many years before the two turned on each other after Cohen was targeted by investigations during Trump's term in the White House. Cohen has since written a book criticizing Trump.

The Hill reported that "the FBI raided Cohen's hotel room, home and office in April 2018, on suspicions that his former lawyer was acting as an unregistered foreign agent, among other crimes."

Cohen became a household name after defending the president during the Stormy Daniels scandal. The attorney later pleaded guilty to several criminal charges including tax fraud and excessive campaign contributions after confessing to paying two women "for the principal purpose of influencing the [2016] election," purportedly at the request of Trump.

He also pleaded guilty to lying to Congress during the Mueller probe over a Trump Tower project in Moscow.

Cohen served time in prison and was released on house arrest due to COVID-19 concerns. He has met several times with the Manhattan district attorney's office "as part of a criminal investigation looking into Trump's family business finances," The Hill noted.

After Cohen's tweet reacting to the Giuliani raid, his name began trending on Twitter to his own apparent dismay. He tweeted, "Amazing that @RudyGiuliani home and office gets raided by law enforcement and I start #trending on @Twitter!"
