'I'm putting my name in the mix': After expulsion, former Rep. George Santos has his sights set on another role

In the wake of his expulsion from the House of Representatives, former GOP Rep. George Santos of New York has announced that he would like to serve as director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

"My new year resolution is that President Trump returns to the white house and in 2025 I can be appointed Director of ICE," Santos tweeted. "ICE has had their hands tied for far too long with the sole exception of the great four years of DJT. The time is now and that's why I'm putting my name in the mix for a role that will take grit and a fearless person and not a coward that will fear media spin."

"It's time to reclaim our country and if you believe the nonsense numbers the media is giving you then you are accepting the big lie!" he wrote. "We have over 50M+ people who have invaded our sovereignty over the years due to careless and neglectful immigration policy, if given the job I know exactly where to start and run the much needed raids of removals proceedings this country needs," Santos claimed.

On December 1, House lawmakers voted 311-114 in favor of ousting Santos. While 105 Republicans voted to expel their colleague, 112 voted against expulsion. And while 206 Democrats voted to oust Santos, two voted against expulsion, and two voted present.

Santos, who is facing a litany of charges, according to an October 2023 U.S. Attorney's Office, Eastern District of New York press release, has reportedly pled not guilty.

Trump is facing several primary challengers, but is holding a large lead in the polls.

The GOP presidential nominating process will kick off later this month with the Iowa Republican presidential caucus.
