Former NFL cornerback claims to use Bud Light for 'target practice' in new firearm video — but insists it's not political

A former first-round pick in the NFL draft who has since retired and picked up a second career as a hunter released a new video demonstrating his marksmanship — and in the process, gave the left two reasons to howl with rage.

On Sunday, Trae Waynes, 30, who spent six seasons as a cornerback in the NFL, released a video that not only involved the use of a firearm but that also seemed to take a stand against woke corporations, transgenderism, or both. "Bud light target practice lol," Waynes wrote to give context to an 11-second video in which he aims a rifle at a long-distance target and then fires a single shot. Notably, the Bud Light bottle in the distance cannot be clearly identified, and two cans of beer that appear to be Busch are also visible in the tableau.

Within hours, leftists had flocked to the tweet to leave nasty comments, with some calling Waynes a "snowflake" and a baby and others even insinuating that he is a closeted homosexual.

"It's 2023 you don't need a big production to tell everyone you're gay," quipped one user.

"Poor you, did the beer can hurt your widdle feelings?" jeered another.

The timing of the tweet is indeed curious. After all, many on the right — likely including some of his fellow Wisconsin huntsmen — have boycotted Bud Light for nearly eight weeks now after the beer company partnered with notorious trans influencer Dylan Mulvaney.

Still, despite the continuing controversy between Bud Light and its consumer base, Waynes insisted in several subsequent comments that the tweet wasn't intended to be a political statement. "Lmao im not supporting or protesting anything. just drinking beer and shooting beer. Not that deep," he said in one such reply.

To demonstrate the levity of the Bud Light video, he then joked, "Well, im not gonna shoot the whiskey," but that follow-up tweet still didn't appease his leftist detractors. Finally, an apparently exasperated Waynes fired off yet another tweet, hoping to settle the issue once and for all. "If I shoot a coors light will yal quit crying? lol i enjoy shooting guns get over it," he said with a laughing emoji, "yal clowns looking to [sic] deep in to s***. Bored mfs."

Waynes spent five years with the Minnesota Vikings from 2015 until 2019, took a one-year hiatus for COVID, then played a single season with the Cincinnati Bengals. During his career, he notched seven interceptions, 227 solo tackles, and one sack. Before playing professional football, Waynes was a member of the vaunted Michigan State Spartan defense that in January 2014 helped usher in MSU's first Rose Bowl victory in more than 25 years.

Now that he's retired from football, Waynes spends his days working at Home Grown Outfitters & Love The Grind TV, a Wisconsin-based company he co-owns. According to its website, Home Grown is dedicated to "strategically purchasing and renovating farms; turning them into world class hunting properties, while letting deer grow to record book size."
