Florida teacher arrested on allegations of soliciting sex — from a 2-year-old child

Despicable

Authorities arrested a 27-year-old Florida elementary school teacher after he reportedly solicited online to have sex with a 2-year-old child, according to a report from the Associated Press.

What are the details?

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office announced Thursday that officers arrested Xavier Donte Alexander, a fourth-grade teacher at Grove Park Elementary School in Palm Beach Gardens, after he reportedly tried to have sex with a 2-year-old child.

In a news release, the sheriff's office noted that Alexander was arrested on felony charges of soliciting sex with a minor and traveling to meet a minor for sex. In addition to teaching, Alexander also previously advertised for his babysitting services on various websites.

WPTV-TV reported that Alexander, a teacher at the school for at least six months, has previously directed after-school care and is a nanny-for-hire on Care.com.

On Thursday, the sheriff's office tweeted, "We have just arrested 27 y/o Xavier Donte Alexander for solicitation of a minor and traveling to meet a minor, 2 years of age. Xavier is also a 4th grade teacher at Grove Park Elementary. He is also a babysitter on Care.com and other nanny websites."

What else do we know about this?

Alexander was ordered held on $1 million bond during a Friday court hearing.

In a statement, the Palm Beach County School District issued a statement announcing its shock over the accusations and said that Alexander has been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.

If convicted on both charges, Alexander could face 20 years in prison.

WPTV reported that authorities believe there is a possibility of additional victims.

Any persons who believe their child could be a victim of solicitation is asked to contact Detective Malory Wildove at 561-688-4079, via email at WildoveM@pbso.org, or through Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 458-TIPS.
