Father of 6 on life support after being mauled by 3 dogs in Detroit: 'My heart broke because I don't have a father'

A family in Detroit is struggling with the decision to pull life support from a father of six after he was brutally mauled by three dogs.

Harold Phillips' family said that he was walking to his home from a bus stop on Monday when three dogs escaped from a neighbor's back yard and attacked him.

"The dogs bit his groin, his head, his back, his legs — they mauled him," his wife, Shauntaye Phillips, said to WJBK-TV. "Your dogs supposed to know, they're supposed to protect your home, he wasn’t bothering nobody, he was walking home to his family."

She said that they may have to pull him from life support. On Monday, doctors amputated his arm above the elbow.

"If you don't know how to contain a dog, don't buy one. It's just causing harm to the society" said the victim's son, Haroun Phillips.

"It should be justice, I don't what to say. It's my dad, it's him, he's not supposed to die like this, he's too strong," he added.

"My heart broke because I don't have a father to take care of me," said Hailey Phillips, the daughter of the victim.

The owner of the dogs admitted to WXYZ-TV that they had bitten other people before.

"To the Phillips family, I'm so sorry," said Roy Goodman. "Nothing I can do can make this right but if there's anything I can do, I will."

He said one of the three biting cases involved a child.

"After the child situation, the one dog should have definitely been put down," Goodman admitted.

The Goodmans face multiple fines over laws they broke regarding their dogs.

Shauntaye Phillips set up a GoFundMe account to ask for help to pay their health bills.

"[H]e is an amazing father and a good husband who takes pride in his family and we are asking for any help that yall can give to cover his doctors and hospital expenses," she wrote.

"I don't wanna say funeral but that's the road we are on so please if you can find it in your hearts to help our family we appreciate you all," she added.
