DeSantis rallies support in Iowa as Trump cancels Des Moines event over weather concerns

Florida's Republican Governor Ron DeSantis made multiple stops in Iowa Saturday, including one at a venue a few miles away from a scheduled rally President Trump canceled over weather concerns.

"Governing is not about entertaining. Governing is not about building a brand or taking on social media and virtue signaling. It's ultimately about winning and about producing results," DeSantis said in remarks at picnic fundraiser in Sioux Center for U.S. Rep. Randy Feenstra (R-Iowa).

Other high profile Iowa Republicans showing their appreciation for DeSantis included Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds (R) and Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa).

While DeSantis was out meeting and greeting potential voters dotting the Hawkeye State, former President Trump canceled his event in the capitol city of Des Moines over concerns about the weather.

"Tornado Watch in Iowa. For safety of our great Patriots, we have been asked to delay or cancel today’s sold out rally. I am near the Palm Beach Airport, ready to go, but we are on hold because of the very bad weather in Iowa. Please seek shelter or safe haven!" Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social just ahead of the rally.

In a separate post, he included a photo showing the extent of tornado watches across the state, saying they would reschedule the event "soon."

Eleven tornadoes touched down in central Iowa Saturday, the Des Moines Register reported.

DeSantis, later in the day, greeted fans at an unscheduled stop in Des Moines at Jethro's BBQ Southside, a few miles down the road from Trump's canceled event at Lauridsen Amphitheater in Water Works Park.

"My better half and I have been able to be all over Iowa today, but before we went back to Florida we wanted to come by and say hi to the people of Des Moines," DeSantis said, as the New York Times reported.

"So thank you all for coming out. It’s a beautiful night, it’s been a great day for us."

Trump again took to Truth Social to deride DeSantis Sunday morning. Dubbing him "Rob DeSanctimonious," Trump said the Sunshine State's governor's poll numbers were "dropping like a rock" and suggested DeSantis is either "young, inexperienced and naive" or a "fool."
