Dem candidate who livestreamed sex acts with her husband for money loses bid for Virginia House seat

The Democrat candidate who filmed pornographic videos with her husband and streamed them online has lost her bid for a seat in the Virginia House of Delegates.

In September, Susanna Gibson, a 40-year-old wife and mother of two who was vying for the state House seat representing District 57, made national headlines when news broke that she and her husband, John David Gibson, had previously livestreamed themselves having intimate relations on the website Chaturbate.

Gibson, who works as a nurse practitioner by day, announced her candidacy for the seat in July 2022, making so-called abortion rights a major focus of her campaign. "As a nurse practitioner, I know better than anyone that politicians have no place making decisions about women’s bodies and their health care," she said.

By September of that year, two months after she joined the race, more than a dozen explicit videos featuring Gibson and her husband were shared on another X-rated site, Recubate. At least two of these videos were reportedly posted in a publicly accessible website archive.

According to the Washington Free Beacon, which has catalogued much of Gibson's pornographic content, including links to her videos, Gibson evinced truly execrable behavior in these online postings. In one, she admitted that she is unfaithful to her husband, a practice she euphemistically referred to as an "ethically non monogamous" [sic] open marriage, and bragged about "f***ing" three men, one of whom was her husband, on the same day, the Free Beacon reported.

In another video, she apparently asked her more than 5,700 Chaturbate followers to "tip" her extra "tokens ... for a good cause" — likely her political aspirations — in exchange for the privilege of watching her urinate. "Yeah, you can watch me pee," she said, according to the Free Beacon. "Let me block a few people, and then y'all can watch me pee if you tip me and some tokens again. I'm raising money for a good cause."

Fox News reported at the time that asking for money to perform specific sex acts violates Chaturbate's terms and conditions.

While some Virginia Democrats, including U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine, distanced themselves from Gibson shortly after her pornographic videos were made known, Gibson instead went on offense, slamming the reports as "an illegal invasion of [her] privacy" and a deliberate attempt "to humiliate" her.

Her attorney even mentioned exploring whether sharing the videos, which she livestreamed of her own accord, violated Virginia law regarding "revenge porn," and Gibson's statement at the time went so far as to accuse some of committing "a sex crime" in connection with the videos.

"My political opponents and their Republican allies have proven they’re willing to commit a sex crime to attack me and my family because there’s no line they won’t cross to silence women when they speak up," her statement said.

For his part, her Republican opponent, businessman David Owen, spent little time on the videos on the campaign trail, preferring instead to focus on the merits of his own platform, which included fixing the economy and the spikes in crime. "As far as whether [porn] disqualifies her or not, that will be up to the voters in the district," Owen said.

Owen's instinct to trust the voters worked in his favor. They narrowly elected him to the Delegate seat by fewer than 1,000 votes. The Washington Examiner called it "one of the closest races of the cycle."
