Defendant on trial for gruesome murder attacks her attorney during court appearance

Warning: extremely graphic content

A Green Bay, Wisconsin, woman who allegedly strangled her lover to death and then dismembered his body has now apparently attacked her attorney.

On Tuesday, Taylor Schabusiness, 25, was in a Brown County circuit court because her attorney wanted to request a two-week delay for her murder trial. The trial had been scheduled for March 6, but attorney Quinn Jolly told Judge Thomas Walsh that he needed more time to allow an expert witness to review the case. This expert witness would reportedly be able to testify to Schabusiness' mental capacity. She has pled not guilty and not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect, so the testimony of that expert witness could be helpful for her defense.

Despite the seriousness of the circumstances, Schabusiness did not seem to appreciate Jolly's efforts on her behalf. Just moments after Judge Walsh agreed to extend the trial, Schabusiness lunged at Jolly and swung at him with her fists. A deputy had to restrain Schabusiness physically, and the courtroom had to be cleared before the hearing could continue.

Schabusiness already faces a series of horrific accusations. According to reports, she brutally murdered her lover, 25-year-old Shad Thyrion, a year ago while the two were engaged in a meth-infused embrace. On February 23, 2022, she allegedly choked the victim with a chain and would not relent, even when he turned purple. After she discovered he was dead, she allegedly began sexually abusing his body by performing oral sex on his corpse and inserting a sex toy into his mouth and anus.

She then began dismembering the body, the criminal complaint stated, cutting off Thyrion's head with a bread knife and leaving it and a "male organ" in a bucket, which Thyrion's mother later found in her basement. Police also found at least one leg in the van that Schabusiness had supposedly borrowed from a roommate.

Schabusiness reportedly admitted to detectives that she committed the grisly murder, adding that she "liked" choking Thyrion. She also supposedly told them that she had intended to remove all of the victim's severed parts but that after a while, she had become "lazy" and had forgotten to remove the bucket containing his head. She even asked detectives whether "they knew what it was like to love something so much that you kill it," the complaint stated.

Schabusiness has been charged with first-degree intentional homicide, mutilation of a corpse, and third-degree sexual assault. Though a court-appointed doctor had determined last year that Schabusiness was competent to stand trial, she had been previously diagnosed with bi-polar disorder and had been treated for mental illness since the seventh grade.

At the hearing, Judge Walsh suggested that her trial be rescheduled for May 15, though it is unclear whether that suggestion had been accepted. After Schabusiness' violent outburst, Jolly claimed that he intended to file a motion to withdraw from the case, but whether he ever filed the motion is likewise unclear. Walsh did not rule on the possibility during the proceedings.
