'Disturbing video': Maryland daycare worker arrested for child abuse after she allegedly filmed herself kicking and throwing young children

A Maryland daycare worker has been arrested for allegedly abusing small children. Oddly enough, the suspect was arrested after an alleged viral video surfaced of her kicking and throwing young children – which she reportedly filmed herself.

Kayla Greenwell, of Oxon Hill, was arrested by officers at the Prince George's County Police Department on Friday after authorities received several tips about a disturbing video of the 23-year-old daycare worker assaulting children at the Oxon Hill Learning Center – roughly 50 miles south of Baltimore. The videos of the alleged child abuse were reportedly recorded by Greenwell and posted on social media.

Video reportedly recorded on Wednesday appears to show Greenwell picking up a small child by the arm and tossing them on the ground. Another video apparently shows Greenwell kicking the chair out from under a small boy, causing him to fall to the floor. Footage purportedly shows Greenwell throwing a child into a mattress and then kicking the mattress over, causing the girl to fall to the ground. Video allegedly shows the daycare worker picking up a child by the shirt and dropping them on a mattress.

WTTG obtained the abusive footage from a viewer and then forwarded the "disturbing videos" to the Prince George’s County Police Department.

"PGPD would like to thank Fox5 News for immediately forwarding the video to our Media Relations Division and holding off on airing the video," police said. "Doing so allowed PGPD to begin the investigation and make a quick arrest. PGPD also appreciates the help from the community in identifying the suspect."

Ledarra White told WJLA, “I was asleep. It was my day off and I woke up to a lot of messages just sending me videos saying, 'Isn't this your son's school? Isn't this your son’s school?'”

White rushed to pick up her 3-year-old son from the daycare after seeing the concerning videos.

The Oxon Hill Learning Center sent out a letter to parents on Friday:

"As many of you know, a disturbing video showing a former employee displaying inappropriate behavior with two children has gone viral on social media. We take seriously the safety of your children; therefore, upon being informed of the video, we immediately took action. The employee was fired. All required hiring requirements were followed, which included a criminal background check and a child abuse check. Both checks came back clear."

Greenwell was charged with multiple counts of child abuse and assault. She is in the custody of the Department of Corrections.

The investigation is ongoing.

Police say that Greenwell began working at the Oxon Hill Learning Center in late March.
