Republican Rep. Dan Bishop confirms run for North Carolina attorney general

Republican Rep. Dan Bishop has indicated that he will run for North Carolina state attorney general.

GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida swiftly endorsed Bishop for the post, calling his colleague "a fighter."

The Club for Growth PAC has also endorsed Bishop for the state attorney general role.

"Dan Bishop is the conservative champion that the people of North Carolina deserve as Attorney General," Club for Growth PAC president David McIntosh said in a statement. "Congressman Bishop is a strong supporter of free markets, school choice, and is a leading voice in the U.S. House of Representatives pushing back against the Biden Administration's radical agenda."

GOP Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado lamented that the House would lose the conservative figure but expressed her support for Bishop as he pursues the new role.

"I am sad to hear we're losing @JDanBishop in the House, truly one of our greatest! I am, however, THRILLED for the people of North Carolina in knowing that they'll get a chance to elect an INCREDIBLE Attorney General!" Boebert tweeted.

Bishop, who was sworn in as a member of Congress just shy of four years ago in September 2019, was one of the House Republicans involved in the House speakership fight earlier this year. He voted for someone other than Kevin McCarthy in the first 11 rounds of balloting before switching to vote for McCarthy during the 12th through 15th rounds.
