Climate vandals deflate tires on 43 SUVs in Boston: ‘Your gas guzzler kills’

A group of climate activists vandalized a number of vehicles in Boston’s Beacon Hill neighborhood on Wednesday night to make an environmental statement.

The climate vandals deflated the tires on 43 SUVs parked in the area and left notes on the vehicles taking credit for their actions.

The note read, “ATTENTION – your gas guzzler kills.”

According to WBTS, the note to vehicle owners explained why gas-power SUVs are unnecessary, pure vanity, and detrimental to the climate.

“You’ll be angry,” it read. “But don’t take it personally. It’s not you. It’s your car.”

The environmental group, which identified itself as the Tyre Extinguishers, claims to have 15,000 members worldwide.

According to a blog post on the group’s website on Thursday, titled “First Action in Boston, Massachusetts: 43 SUVs Disarmed,” the activists deflated the tires to “render the large greenhouse gas emitting vehicles unusable.”

The post noted that the group only targeted “large, luxury, gas powered SUVs” and did not deflate the tires on any electric or hybrid vehicles or vehicles with a handicap designation.

“The group left leaflets on the cars to inform the owners about why their vehicle was impacted, imploring them to stop using their SUVs and switch to public transportation, biking, or smaller compact electric and hybrid cars,” the blog stated.

In a Twitter post late Wednesday evening, the group wrote, “Great action by the new TX Boston group who last night took out 43 SUVs in the Beacon Hill area, one of the wealthiest areas of the city.”

The post encouraged more climate activists to join the movement.

Tyre Extinguishers has taken responsibility for deflating more than 10,000 SUV tires.

One woman whose vehicle tires were deflated told WBTS, “I came out about 6:30 a.m. to take my dog to a medical treatment at Angell and I was surprised to see my tire was flattened.”

Another resident told the news outlet, “I know another person in the neighborhood. He’s a firefighter and he couldn’t get to the station and that’s frustrating. There are plenty of people here who work at the hospital and couldn’t get to work on time.”

One neighbor stated, “I agree from an environmental perspective what is being said, but at the same time to not think about the consequences of what people might need to do in the morning, go to a medical appointment and go to a job interview.”

Authorities are still investigating the vandalism, and no arrests have been made at this time.
