Thieves steal classic car worth $100,000 on the day before owner's birthday in California

A California man is frustrated after thieves stole a classic car worth about $100,000 that he had purchased only two weeks prior.

Seth Wayne told KTLA-TV that the car was stolen from the front of his Woodland Hills home on Thursday night, the day before his 34th birthday.

“You work hard for this and people just come and snatch it right from you,” he said.

Surveillance video showed two men walk up to the teal green 1962 Chevy Impala convertible that he had parked in front of his garage.

They appear to try to hot-wire the car, but Wayne says that it was customized with hydraulics along with a dozen car batteries and that likely confused the pair.

“I guess they weren’t familiar with what the hydraulics were and what was going on back there and when they yanked the cables, the charger, the positive and the negative, they hit it and sparks went flying everywhere,” he explained.

He says the car was also missing some parts since he was making some repairs to it, which also kept them from being able to drive it away.

Instead, video captured one thief yelling to another to push him in the car with another vehicle.

“It just sucks that these punks are out here doing stuff like this,” Wayne continued. “They didn’t know how to open the hood of an Impala so they bent the grill and as you can see in the video, the grill is busted, just to open the hood.”

The theft obviously ruined Wayne's birthday.

“It’s not the kind of thing you want to deal with on your birthday,” he concluded.
